Readathon April 2016: #ReadBlock Challenge

The #ReadBlock Challenge is asking what it is that stops readers from reading.

It’s quite interesting as lately I have had a bit of a #readblock but I found that a routine helped me get back into it. I make sure to read without fail before I go to sleep, even if I do end up reading for only a short amount of time.

The things that stop me from reading are:

Work
I love teaching, but when i was working full-time, I was too busy or too exhausted to read. I then felt guilty if I found time to read, as I could probably have been doing some marking or planning and was probably procrastinating. Really, you should never have to feel guilty for reading. that is why I like routine. If I can get myself into a routine for marking and planning then I can get in an hour of reading every day too!

Aches
I have fibromyalgia, so sometimes my hands and fingers are so achy that I can’t hold a book or even a kindle without pain. Luckily, audiobooks and my audible subscription come to the rescue!

I can get distracted by Social Media, or by watching tv – recently I rejoined Netflix and have been binge watching RuPaul’s Drag Race which cut into my reading time severely.

Really though, there is always a way of fitting reading in. I have somehow been able to read 40 books so far this year so I’m not doing too bad!
